We invite you to Jabie – this is the old name of Verkhovyna. From Kolomyia to Verhovyna you can go either through Kosiv, which is more than 70 km, or through Vorokhta. The path through Vorokhta is 30 km longer, but travelers often choose it because of the incredible views along the way. There is no rail connection with Verkhovyna, so vehicles are the only choice for tourists to travel to Verkhovyna. Going to Verkhovyna, you want to take pictures at every step. Before reaching Verkhovyna, stop in Kryvorivna. The owners of the museum have a lot of unique photos, they keep the director’s personal belongings and the actors’ clothes from the filming. And the tour guides kindly tell interesting stories, because they knew Paradzhanov personally. A movie was shot in Verkhovyna, which was recognized as one of the best in the world. “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” is in the top 20 best films on the planet, and its director, Serhii Paradzhanov, a native of Georgia, refused to live in a hotel during filming. In order to get to know Hutsul life more deeply, he lived in an ordinary Hutsul house. Now it is a museum. And around, as then, a strong union of sky and mountains.

A woman made a museum out of her home. Tourists from all over the world come here to look at the ancient useful things of the Hutsuls, as well as embroidered clothes. There are more than 150 of them here. It is interesting that all of them are relatives of Mrs. Halyna. The hostess allows you to try on some shirts, and also teaches you how to tie handkerchiefs the way our ancestors did. But most importantly, a woman knows how to tie a tie. The length of this headdress sometimes reaches 6 meters. Peremitka is the main scarf that women once wore after the wedding, and it is not so easy to tie it.
Museum of Hutsul Magic
The best treasures of Hutsul culture have magical power. At least that’s what the residents of Verkhovyna think. That is why the Museum of Hutsul Magic was created.
